PDTE MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA |

The PDTE offers two levels of membership, dependent upon qualifications and experience. Successful new applicants will normally be offered membership at Associate level, and application is usually by an in-depth written application which is reviewed by the Board of Officers. Associate membership will be offered to those who are currently working with dogs in any of the areas below, and are actively engaged in developing their own knowledge and experience: Dog training Dog-class instructing Veterinary work Rescue work Behaviour counselling through a recognised body |

Full membership will only be offered to those who have at least five years experience in one or more of the above areas (instructors will need to be in full charge of classes). Associate members wishing to transfer to Full membership will need to demonstrate their understanding of behaviour and learning theory, and supply evidence that they employ humane training and handling methods in line with the Code of Ethics of the PDTE. Alternatively the Board of Officers may invite persons to become Full members, where they have shown exceptional knowledge, understanding and promotion of humane canine relationships. Full members will be expected to be active participants in recognised clinics, schools, classes, courses, seminars or symposia, and contribute to the development of Associate members and active promotion of the PDTE. All members (Full and Associate) will be expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn, and provide evidence of continual update to their knowledge. All members must also abide by the Code of Ethics of the PDTE. Only Full members are allowed to use the PDTE logo and name as endorsements or to add to letterheads or other publicity material. |
